In order to drive a motor car/vehicle in a public place, one must possess a valid driving licence issued by the Licencing Authority. It is illegal to drive a motor car without having an effective driving licence and similarly, no person shall drive a Transport Vehicle in a public place unless his driving licence specifically entitles him so to do. The District Transport Officer’s of various districts is the competent authority to issue driving licence in Assam.
For applying for a licence one must be 18 (eighteen) years of age and for driving a transport vehicle one must be 21 (twenty-one) years of age. But a person attaining the age of 16 (sixteen) years can drive a motorcycle with an engine capacity not exceeding 50CC in a public place.
